Business Meeting, September 10th, 2003
Iowa City Public Library, 7:00 p.m.

I. City Council Candidate Endorsements.
Members heard short presentations by city council candidates seeking our support for the October 7th primary. Brandon Ross is running at-large; Regenia Bailey is seeking the District C seat.

After the presentations, candidates left. Discussion: all candidates we’ve heard from hold solid "progressive" positions Greens could endorse.

MOTION to endorse Brandon Ross for an at-large seat, Joannes Pool; seconded, Holly Hart; amended to add a nod of encouragement to Karen Pease for the District A seat. PASSED, unanimously.

Bill Boos will draft a letter to be reviewed by Joannes, to go out to the membership listserv. This will announce our endorsement of Brandon Ross, and encourage people to support Kaaren Pease. For District C, members will be encouraged to support the progressive candidate of their choice.

II. Brief update on the Patriot Act opposition statement being circulated by Iowa City-BORDC. The Johnson County Green Party has endorsed the document. This effort aims to get the city council to sign the statement of non-compliance with any act that conflicts with the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights, and to protect civil liberties. The city council mostly believes it’s not a local issue. Steven Kanner and Irvin Pfab support the statement, Connie Champion is willing to discuss it.

III. Discussion of plans for upcoming book event with John Rensenbrink, Dee Berry and others, Sunday, September 28th at the IMU. Campus Greens will co- sponsor, post flyers and reserve a table for dinner at Thai Flavors.

IV. Tabling. To continue, as usual. Bill Boos has been tabling Saturday afternoons. We will get candidate material to include with the usual leaflets.

Next Meeting: October 8th, 7:00 p.m.; Iowa City Public Library
